Geography

I found this physical map of Canada on www.freeworldmaps.net . The actual link is Retrieved from http://www.freeworldmaps.net/northamerica/canada/map.html

Where is Canada Located in the World?
According to the CIA's World Factbook website Canada is specifically located in "Northern North America, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean on the east, North Pacific Ocean on the west, and the Arctic Ocean on the north, north of the conterminous US"  (Retrieved from <https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ca.html> on 5.29.13).  They also stated that Canada and the U.S. share the world's largest "unfortified border".

How Large is Canada"
It is much larger than "U.S.". The chart below from the CIA World Factbook, shows the specifc square feet in kilometers regarding the actual size of Canada. It is interesting to know that "Canada is one of the largest countries in the world that borders only one country"

Terrain-- What types of physical geography make up the country?  Are there any noteworthy rivers, lakes, or seas?

One noteworthy mountainous region, that we are all familiar with in Colorado called the Rocky Mountains; also stretches deep into the Northwestern parts of Canada! Canada has an abundance of the following natural resources: "iron ore, nickel, zinc, copper, gold, lead, rare earth elements, molybdenum, potash, diamonds, silver, fish, timber, wildlife, coal, petroleum, natural gas, hydropower" (Retrieved from <https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ca.html> on 5.29.13)

  1. Roo - nice to meet you! Great job on your geography page! I think Canada is an interesting country for this project since it is so similar yet dissimilar to the US. I never really thought about the area of Canada before but I didn't realize before now that Canada is bigger than the US.

For some reason the info in the body of the page is formatted strangely, almost like there are supposed to be graphics but they aren't loading?

Thanks for sharing, have a great night!

    1. Hello Bobbi! Nice to meet you as well! I actually never knew Canada was bigger than U.S. either. I am sure we are going to find out some cool stuff about places we never even thought about thinking about!

I see what you were talking about under "how large is Canada section". I will try and erase that, but there isn't any thing important that went there, I think it was the way I copied it. Thank you for pointing that out though.

I look forward to working with you more this summer!

      Best,

  2. Roo,

Surprisingly, I had NO IDEA that Canada was bigger then the United States either. Canada is wonderful how how well the country is doing compared to the U.S; we have many resources but compared to Canada's we need more! And the amount of different types of terrain in Canada is crazy; islands, coastline, mountains, etc...

    Thanks for sharing!

  3. Roo,

Very interesting information on Canada! I was also very surprised that Canada is bigger than the U.S., crazy to think that! Like Kye said, Canada is is doing very well in the natural resource department. No wonder we try and push for the "Keystone Pipeline" thats a ton of oil that America could be using instead of them. As for the terrain of Canada is also very interesting, I have always want to go to British Columbia and snowboard there one day! Great information altogether, you have made me want to visit Canada even more now!

  4. Hey Kye,

I never knew that as well, but it kind of looked bigger but I definitely assumed wrong on it's size. I definitely want to visit the islands someday! Thank you for your comment!!

    Hi Blake,

You brought out a major point about the Keystone Pipeline, I definitely think we will see more "American visitation" in that area soon...And your right, the BC has to be one of my top spots to visit on the bucket list, especially the boarding that would truly be something to tell the Keystoner's about ;)

All the best and I hope you get to make that trip one day soon!

Thank you both for your comments!!
